The National Debit Card/Mobile and PIN Agreement has been reviewed, updated and posted on the Standards, Regulations and Procedures page of our website under the Card & Mobile section. Legal counsel was engaged to ensure that this agreement meets the credit unions’ obligations. The changes have been reviewed and accepted by each region as part of the revision process.
Here is the summary of changes in the Terms and Conditions section:
- Removal of the Member Card word mark. With more credit unions choosing the personalized debit card designs, this logo is no longer necessary.
- Removal of Interac Flash on section 3 of the Terms & Conditions. With issuance of co-badged debit cards, the contactless functionality no longer means Interac debit only.
- Expanded section 5 to align with Section 5 of the Canadian Code of Practice for Consumer Debit Card Services (link here: https://www.canada.ca/en/financial-consumer-agency/services/industry/laws-regulations/debit-card-code-conduct.html)
- Change on section 9 aims to help cardholders understand that other financial institutions may apply service charges when they use their debit card to avail other FI services or use their devices
- Provided clarity on the definition of eCommerce in section 17.
- The rest of the changes are cosmetic in nature.
